What we collect

We don't require accounts and we don't run advertising trackers. The postcard tool on our Write In page works entirely in your browser; nothing you type there is sent to us unless you choose to email it. If you email us, we receive your email address, name and whatever you write.

Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and pages requested) for security and to keep the site running.

Why we use it and the legal basis

We use messages to reply to you, correct errors and, only with your consent, quote short memories on the site. Our legal bases are legitimate interests (replying and site security) and consent (publishing your memory).

How long we keep it

Emails are kept for up to 24 months, then deleted. Server logs are kept for no longer than 30 days. You can ask us to delete your messages sooner.

Sharing

We don't sell your data. We share it only with service providers who host the site and our email, under contracts that protect it, or where the law requires.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask to access, correct or delete your data, object to or restrict processing, and withdraw consent at any time. Email us to make a request. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
